After a chaotic summer for Barcelona and new boss Ernesto Valverde, which came to a head with their defeat in the Spanish Super Cup to fierce rivals Real Madrid things have improved. The loss of Brazilian superstar Neymar also cast doubt on the super club’s ability to compete at the level they have done in recent history. Questions were raised about the quality of the squad also by their main man Lionel Messi. All this happened against the backdrop of unrest in Catalonia in relation to a push for independence from Spain. This lead to Barcelona playing a game behind closed doors.
7 games into the La Liga season Barcelona have won all of their games and sit top of the league 5 points ahead of Sevilla in second place and perhaps more importantly 7 ahead of Real Madrid.
Barca reacted to the sale of Neymar by splashing out a €105 million plus add on deal for Borussia Dortmund star Ousamane Dembele. The pacey winger seen as a direct replacement for the outgoing Brazilian but he will need time to settle. He has a lot of raw talent but needs work to become the complete article.
Now Valverde is looking into the possibility of getting the signatures of three the of Premier League’s brightest stars. With a vote being pushed through which will see the Premier League transfer window shut before the start of the season there is a feeling that big teams around Europe will look to exploit this situation. Barcelona as one of the most attractive destinations in world football would certainly have the pull for Premier League players.
Barcelona wanted Coutinho after Neymar left the club. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp stood strong and kept his star player. However, it just looks like a matter of time before Coutinho switches Anfield for the Camp Nou. The Liverpool star has got back down to business for the Merseyside club which will not turn Barca’s head away from the prospect of signing him.
A true talent in world football he would slot straight into the Barcelona side, more than likely playing in a deeper role. At Liverpool he is more often than not plays in the final third. At Barca the front three consists of new man Dembele, the legendary Messi and another ex Liverpool man in Luis Suarez. Unless Valverde was looking to drop one of these three players it would see Coutinho drop back into central midfield. Perhaps Barcelona view him as a replacement for the ageing Andres Iniesta.
A slightly surprising transfer link for Barcelona sees them rumoured to be interested in Spurs youngster Dele Ali. The surprising element is not down to the quality of Ali but the fact that if Coutinho is signed it could be difficult to fit the Englishman in. His quality is unquestionable and with his rising reputation in world football he will want to match his ambition with trophies. Barcelona will offer him the chance to win trophies and play entertaining football.
The rumour is more than likely circulating with the idea in mind that Barcelona miss out on primary target Coutinho. If the Spanish giants signed both players fitting them in the side together and keeping the balance of the side would be difficult. Not impossible though!
The French attacker has turned his career around at Manchester United. Frustrated by a lack of first team football given to him last season by new boss Jose Mourinho he has started this campaign moving forward. He seems to have regained his best form and his pace and direct style of play have been cutting defences to ribbons in the Premier League.
France have a great pool of talent and Martial is a member of the French contingent that will be pushing for the World Cup squad this summer. There is an obvious relationship with Dembele and this could influence his decision. fighting for his place at United was an issue last season and that competition for place would not stop at Barcelona. Will Martial have his head turned by the great Barcelona? The temptation will be high but working with Jose Mourinho and Manchester United on the rise is equally as appealing. A hard decision ahead for the Frenchman if Barcelona pursue the move.
The two big Spanish clubs like to sign Premier League players. Their squads are filled with players with experienced in the elite English league and it is easy to see it continuing. If Barcelona can snap up these three players their squad would be of the highest quality and the Premier League would suffer losing 3 of their top players. Barcelona look in great form at the start of this season and the thought of them strengthening is a scary one for clubs not just in Spain but across Europe.
